Tiles Almost Done

The tilers were scheduled to finish their work tomorrow, but due to a mistake made by SS, they'll have to come back again to finish up the tilings.

The floor tiles looked really good with the white grout. To maintain the white, the tiler suggested to seal the grout. He quoted us the price for the floor of whole house or wet areas only (ensuite, bath, wc and powder). Picturing the image of using a toothbrush scrubbing the grout, we decided to bite the bullet and do it for the whole house, plus the shower walls in ensuite and bathroom.

[Kitchen]

[Bath] Shower wall not tiled because SS forgotten to arrange for a niche

[Bath] Bath tub not installed yet

[Ensuite] Shower wall tiles done, but no grout yet. Can't have a niche here coz the side is on an external wall.

[Laundry] Splashback tiles supposed to be laid vertically... however, might keep it this way.

[Powder] Again the splashback tiles supposed to be vertical.

Might keep the existing tile layout too... or should we change?

Hey H,
Love the tiling. You've alerted me to getting ours sealed now. I don't know why I thought this is included in the work, but after our tiling was done, I can see it's definitely not included and I agree with you - cleaning the shower with a toothbrush is not fun!

I wouldn't change the the splashback design. The tiles look great as they are, in the horizontal lay. Looks much more modern and makes the space look wider. Besides, if you go for a vertical lay, won't it make your splashback shorter or they will have to add a row of cut tile and I don't think it will look as good as how it does now.

Let us know what you decide.

Cheers
Liana

Hi! Loving the house updates and photos!

I was just having a look at the list of things you would do different if you decide to build again...

We have asked PD about the below two items too. Here are there responses to us...

- Rangehood ducted outside
*** PD told us that this was already included for 2 level houses ???***
- Add heating outlet in Laundry
*** We got told that they didn't install outlets and that this is something we would need to organise after hand over :( ***

Thought I would share....

Anyway...loving the blog.

Wow, your Ensuite tiles look awesome. Believe it or not, i have started disliking my ensuite tiles after looking at your chocolate colour tiles. Amazing.
Its funny how different people think differently, We asked our tiler about sealing the grout and he said that according to him its waste of money. I then decided that i will leave it as it is. Now your post is making me think about it again. Phew!!!

Hi guys :)

We've decided the Powder Room and Laundry tiles to stay as it is, have not inform PD about their mistake yet though.

Liana, you're right about the splashback being shorter if lay vertically, and it doesn't look good if another half a piece is used to make the tiles higher.

Rania, I think rangehood for double storey goes up to the roof, and will disperse through the gaps in the roof tiles. The one we wanted is to directly ducted to outside from rangehood to the wall vent.

I think heating outlet in Laundry will be good to dry clothes during winter. Not sure is it possible to add an outlet after installation.

Would-be-home, if the sealing of grout helps to lessen amount of cleaning work in future, I think it is worth the investment.

Our tiler said he'll seal the grout yesterday, but just went to checkout the place, can't tell is it done or not.... ???
